Error Codes and Fault Code Readers

You can read off fault codes from the Ford EEC-IV ecu on the mk5 RS2000 by using a Gunson FCR, these can be brought from Halfords for around 15.

But these do not work on the mk6, so you will need to make up your own reader.

Here is the socket you need to locate on the mk5, it's usually found near the EDIS module on the n/s inner wing.

And here is a list of 2 digit fault codes that the EEC-IV ecu will display on the Gunson Fault Code reader (FCR):

Please note that not all these code are to be found on the RS2000.

6  Start of service mode

11 No fault - system pass

14 Air charge sensor (ACT) or Vane air temperature sensor (VAT), which ever is fitted
15 Throttle position sensor (TPS)
16 Vane air flow meter 2 (VAF-2)
17 Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor
18 Battery voltage low
19 Keep alive memory (KAM) failure
21 Irregular ignition signal
22 Vane air flow meter (VAF-1) voltage too high
23 Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor, voltage too high
24 Air charge sensor (ACT) or Vane air temperature sensor (VAT), which ever is fitted

44 After code 10 in self test procedure, throttle was opened too late or not at all

46 Idle speed control valve (ISCV), maximum engine speed not reached
47 Idle speed control valve (ISCV), maximum engine speed not reached or engine speed too low for testing HEGO or EGR valve
48 CFi - engine Idle tracking switch in throttle plate control motor.  EFi - engine ISCV
49 Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve
51 Air conditioning (A/C) switched on
